Seaport Security Business Unit
CSMI has in-depth experience conducting studies and analysis of seaports and land border crossings for the implementation of cargo screening operations. CSMI was selected by the United Nations to conduct studies and analysis, and develop CONOPS for the implementation of cargo screening operations in the largest seaport in Central America. CSMI’s planning is directly linked to this seaport becoming certified by the US Customs and Border Protection (USCBP) for the Secure Freight Initiative (SFI) and the Megaports Program.
CSMI Management personnel have substantial experience with a wide variety of X-ray, Gamma Ray, and Radioisotope detection technologies and the various system configurations used to screen cargo in seaports. Our hands-on experience with the deployment, integration and sustainment of these systems with current seaport operations gives us a unique insight on how to implement a container screening operation with minimal impact on current seaport operations
Studies and analysis focus on critical factors which impact concept of operations (CONOPS) development. The objective of a zero based study and analysis is proper equipment selection and development of a viable plan for program employment. Studies and assessments include, but are not limited to, the following subject areas
- • Customer objectives
- • Analysis of container traffic flow
- • Cargo densities
- • Space utilization
- • Equipment recommendation and operational requirements
- • Pre and post inspection requirements
- • Integration with Customs procedures
- • Current programs
- • Local infrastructure to support cargo screening technologies
- • Scanning throughput requirements
- • Administrative and organizational requirements
- • Local laws impacting the employment of X-ray and Gamma ray systems
- • Current threats and overall security recommendations
CSMI has conducted numerous studies and analysis on behalf of host nation governments in support of US security initiatives, and has developed CONOPS in seaports and/or land border crossings throughout Latin America, Asia, the Caribbean and the UK.
