Network Engineer V
POSITION
DESCRIPTION: Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities Include:
This engineering position will be forward deployed to perform
on-site technical duties on numerous projects/requirements being supported by
the team. It is a temporary Forward Deployment position to a hazardous location
with an expected duration of 4 - 6 months. This position is eligible for
Hazardous Duty Pay. This Network Engineer position will reside under the
Engineering Operations Directorate on a Government contract, and will be
matrixed to the Special Projects Organization (SPO) to directly support NSG
Expeditionary Architecture (NEA) Crisis Requirements. This engineer will be
forward deployed to perform on-site technical duties on numerous projects/requirements
being supported by the team.
Responsibilities
include the following:
• Provide
on-site network engineering support in forward deployed locations with direct
customer contact and support to evolving crisis needs, presenting solutions,
and working toward full implementation
• Provide analysis and recommendations pertaining to network optimization and
enhancements in order to improve performance, increase efficiency, and reduce
costs
• Implementation of network equipment (hardware and software) and perform
configuration changes as documented in Engineering Orders (EO)
• Includes the maintenance of the equipment and infrastructure following
implementation
• Maintenance of all network related documentation for the forward deployed
location to include current and future floor plans, rack elevations, equipment
lists, router/switch configurations and spare inventory
• Facilitate Technical Exchange Meetings (TEM's) as needed to further develop
system requirements and design, and resolve complex technical issues
• Coordination with on-site customer and appropriate IT/IS peers for the
scheduling, tracking and status of Authorized Outages (AO)
• Technical Collaboration with the NEA Crisis Team (CONUS) for all issues to
include design through implementation and for Reach Back support needs
• Perform site surveys and generate the associated documentation to include:
site layout, power, infrastructure, floor plans, rack layouts, cable
distribution systems, HVAC and other environmental impacts
• Management of all Government customer IP address space utilized at the
forward deployed location. This includes the documentation of device name, MAC
address, location, and port assignment of all equipment that contains a
Government customer provided IP address.
Duties and qualifications, identifying
both essential and marginal duties:
• Prefer at
least one year of experience on our Government customer's networks
• Prefer a minimum of 3 years of networking experience
• Ability to coordinate between external organizations
• Cisco router and switch experience
• Knowledge of GRE tunneling
• In depth knowledge of routing and OSPF
• General knowledge of satellite communications
• Experience with TACLANE encryptors
• Knowledge of network management systems with emphasis on HP Openview,
eHealth, and CiscoWorks
• Troubleshooting skills to include isolation of physical layer issues
• Well organized, accurate, with excellent interpersonal skills as well as a
team player and able to take on challenging dynamic situations related to technical
management
• Display good English written and verbal communication skills including
requirements gathering and analysis, solutions development
• Logical reasoning, troubleshooting and creative problem solving skills
• Experience in installing, testing, debugging and troubleshooting networks
with a variety of network peripherals to include routers, switches, and fiber
cable on TCP/IP networks
Education, Skill, and Experience
Requirements:
• This position
requires a Bachelor's degree, preferably in Engineering, Computer Science or
Information Technology, and 7-10 years of experience or equivalent work
experience
• Technical experience should include network design and engineering, and
TCP/IP network design, routing protocols, OSI model, SNMP, RMON, routing
protocols (OSPF); hands-on Cisco router configuration and troubleshooting
• Preferred Certifications CCNA, CCNP or CISSP
• In depth knowledge of Cisco equipment is a must
• MCSE certification is a major plus
• Strong oral and written communications skills
• Knowledge of our Government customer's infrastructure is strongly desired
• Experience: prefer 3+ years in network engineering, operations and
maintenance
• Preferred Major(s): Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Technology

- If the candidate has no security related certification: assign CISSP
certification training.
- If a candidate has the following security certifications (that meet DOD 8570

required for this position: CISA, CISSP, GSE, and SCNA.
* Upon hire, employee has 6 months to obtain primary certification and is
required to maintain certifications while functioning in this position.
